Rekhachitram Movie Review: Bye Bye Bollywood?

I saw another mystery crime thriller film Rekhachitram from the Malayalam industry which has come on Sony Liv a few days ago. Actually this movie was already released in theaters on 9th January 2025 and has finally come on OTT. This film has been made in a budget of just around ₹9 Cr and earned ₹57.30 Cr. This movie earned a 350% return on investment and as soon as it came on OTT, this movie has again created a stir. By the way, this is the first Malayalam film released in 2025 which has crossed 50 crore collection and it really garnered a lot of appreciation in its theatrical run and now I agree with all those who were praising this movie.

This movie is literally well made and this is what is expected from a good suspense thriller. Malayalam industry has proved again that to show good content, you don't need high budget. You only need a good story, a good presentation, a convincing plot and a good cast. By good cast I mean not well known actors but a star cast that can act well and bring the vision of a director to the big screen through their acting and all the actors of this movie have done their job very well. There is also a well known actor in this who actually everyone thinks is in this movie but has a very small role. He is the LEGENDARY Actor Mammootty Sir.

The story revolves around the era of 1985 where a girl has to become a heroine in Mammootty's film and in this movie Mammootty Sir has been shown with de-aging but he has not actually acted in this film. To understand what I’m saying, you will have to watch the movie. Well, if we talk about the story, then the skeleton of a girl named Rekha has been found under the ground and the killer himself gave this information by going live on social media and in the same live he also killed himself. After that an investigation begins and then the story keeps unfolding, you see it yourself and experience it yourself. The climax may leave you with some questions which you will solve yourself if you have understood the movie well. In the start, the movie starts slow but after that it maintains a constant pace.

Some scenes could have been shortened which could have made the story more gripping but it is okay. The background music is decent but considering the production cost, I would say that the makers did a good job. You can watch Rekhachitram with your whole family as it has good Hindi dubbing. So overall this is a good movie and from my side, the movie can be easily given 3.5 out of 5 stars. Rest you tell me if you have seen the movie then did you like it?
