Mere Husband Ki Biwi Movie Review: Hey Bhagwaan!

Mere Husband Ki Biwi had been released, starring Arjun Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh, and Bhumi Pednekar. It came out at a time when "Chhaava" was creating quite a buzz, and theaters were fully booked because of it. In fact, no one was going to the theaters to watch Mere Husband Ki Biwi; my theater was completely empty. It had even reached the point where the makers had to offer buy-one-get-one-free tickets on the first day of the film's release because they realized what kind of content they have created. Even after offering free tickets, people seem uninterested. The makers couldn't even generate hype through the trailer, which, I swear, was quite good. I had hoped the movie would at least make me laugh, especially with Arjun Kapoor in the lead role. While he did a commendable job in a negative shade in "Singham Again," in comedy and emotional scenes, he was acting with a static expression, which was quite jarring.

The movie is around two and a half hours long, and the first half is painfully slow with forced comedy. It's supposed to be a romantic comedy, but there isn't a single scene or dialogue that makes you laugh. The story revolves around Ankur, played by Arjun, who has already been married and divorced from Prabha, played by Bhumi Pednekar. Now, he wants to marry Antara, played by Rakul Preet Singh, but the twist is that his first wife's memory has been erased, and she still considers him her husband. The chaos that ensues in their lives becomes the main plot of the film.

The topic had potential, but the forced comedy and acting ruined the storyline. Rakul Preet and Bhumi Pednekar did well, and their chemistry was reminiscent of a catfight. Despite their good acting, the film was lacking enjoyment. You can't emotionally connect with any character, which is a huge drawback. The character writing is such that you won't even remember them. The songs are likewise forgettable; they are written in a way that makes you want to listen and then forget them.

If this movie were to be released directly on OTT, it might have been able to at least recoup its expenses. Finding an audience in theaters is nearly impossible, which is a sad reality for the makers. The movie had a lot of potential, but the presentation fell flat. There was a decent stand-up comedian in the film whose potential wasn't effectively utilized, and we all know Arjun Kapoor's capabilities. Overall, I would rate it below average. The film has no vulgarity or cursing, so you can watch it with family and friends if you're just looking to pass the time. I would give it two out of five stars.
