The Story: We follow a lonely, super-focused piano tuner who has a literal superpower, he has 'perfect pitch' and can understand sounds like nobody else. His quiet daily routine goes out the window when a fancy gang of criminals forces him to join them. The Robbery: The mission is perfectly made for him. This thing is not hidden from anyone, the condition of Bollywood is very bad in 2024, if you remove Stree 2, then the rest of the movies have failed to earn both money and respect. Everyone knows about Baby John, the condition of the film was very bad at the box office. But on the same date another movie has been released, watching which people are going crazy, the name is Max which is small but the sound is very big. The Sandalwood industry from which KGF, Kantara, 777 Charlie, UI came out has also given us Max starring Kichha Sudeep. Mass cinema has made a comeback with a movie in which the action is tremendous. Such cinema is not available even in Hollywood, leave alone Bollywood. UI hit a four in the mass category and now Max has hit a six in the mass category. Kichcha Sudeep is a one man army, he has such a screen presence which is like a dream for other actors. Nowadays every second film is made in the mass category, so what is the special reason for watching Max?
The answer is interesting as the way the film tells the story is just like when everything was going on normally in Maharaja when suddenly the climax comes with the twist, the film became a masterpiece. This combination of mass film and intelligent storytelling is very difficult to make but when it happens, films like Kaithi, Vikram and Leo come out. So what is happening inside Max and why is it so special. The answer is simple, if there is a crime then the police solves it but when a crime happens with the police that too a female inspector whose clothes were torn, it is obvious that whoever is the criminal, he will have to be taken straight to jail, but who can have the courage to take off the clothes of the police. You must have understood that if power, politics and money all three come together, then the P for Police is very small. But still both the boys end up in jail.
Inspector Arjun whose favourite work is to get justice whether it is P for public or P for police, he will definitely solve the case. Behind the jail both those political criminals have disappeared and not a single trace of them is left. After all how can two people disappear from a safe place like a police station. The answer to this question is given by the 100 people standing outside the police station more than you and me. Police versus gangsters who will win? In the middle of this action, the suspense of the disappearance of the criminals has been inserted but the story is not as simple and easy as you are thinking from the outside. Unless the makers of the film want you to find the climax, you will not be able to find the climax of the film on your own. Behind all this bloodshed, fighting, one man army, Kichcha Sudeep’s character is hidden.
The way of showing the film to us as audience is very smart and entertaining. Very few such movies are made which deliver more than what you expect from their story. Max will give you your money's worth in that case. Do you know why big budget top cast movies like Singham flopped? Because the story of the movie is flat and there is not a single twist and turn in it. All the actors were wasted and didn't even try to do act in it. While watching Max, even that audience will clap who is probably watching Kichcha Sudeep for the first time in their life because the story doesn't show him as Singham but makes him one. One man alone can overpower 100 cars full of goons. Max's build-up is also of the another level, on one hand you are solving the case using your mind and on the other hand there are action scenes. You can feel the screen presence of Kichcha Sudeep. Credit to Kannada Industry for this as even with such a low budget, very few screens and despite not getting much support, these people are competing on the big stage. It is easy to compete with other films in a thriller because no one notices much about sets, budget, acting etc. But to make a mass action thriller and make people's theatre experience special, either money is needed or creativity. Max has won the battle with his mind.
The film is going to get 3.5 stars out of 5. Showing the thief-cop angle in a new way. Secondly, maintaining the suspense of the story till the climax. Thirdly, best performance by Kichcha Sudeep, the action presentation is tremendous and in the end, there is a special twist like Maharaja. In negatives, the negative characters of the film were shown to be as big as the face-off was not of that level and because of this, the film was left half-finished. The star will be cut because when you know that a villain who can compete with the hero is missing then how will the movie end, it was already understood that if you want to watch a serious movie without any time pass then spend your time on Max, there will be no loss at all for those who don't like violence If you want something different then check out Lucky Baskhar.
